Meet & Ask: Renaissance Wind & Brass Instruments

Sunday, 20 Feb 2022, at 10:30am US Pacific time: Encounter wind instruments of the Renaissance up close – from various sizes of early recorders and flutes to sackbut, crumhorn, bagpipe, and more! Beloved returning SHAK instructor Miyo Aoki, recorder, is joined by all-star guest artists Adam Bregman (Ciaramella), Joan Kimball (Piffaro), and Johanna Bartz (School Cantorum Basiliensis). The guest artists will demonstrate their instruments with engaging tunes from the era. After showing how these instruments work, how they differ from modern versions, and what special things Renaissance instrumentalists need to know, they'll also answer students' questions. Attendees who play wind instruments will receive sheet music of our featured tunes in case you want to try them out on your own!
